NameCheap has always relied on word-of-mouth for marketing, so it’s no wonder they love social media tools like Twitter that allow people to easily spread the word, especially when it comes to great offers or contests like this one.
First of all, what is Twitter?
Although I belive most of you already know about Twitter, it is a service for people to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing at the moment? This can sound pretty mundane, but you could be very interested how easy it is and how interesting and useful it can be.
NameCheap recognized the power of Twitter so they have decided to use Twitter to better keep up with clients. To kick off their presence on Twitter, they are giving away $17,000 worth of domain and domain transfers in their new “The Great NameCheap Twitter Trivia Contest”. What is that all about? They will be posting a holiday trivia question every hour on the hour starting 1st Dec 08 till 25th Dec on Twitter. The first three to reply to @namecheap with the correct answer will get a $9.69 credit to their NameCheap account. This can be used for domain names, domain name transfers, or could even be accumulated for web hosting or SSL renewals.
Here’s an example how that all will look like:
1) NameCheap will send out a Twitter message (status) that says, “What jolly man gives toys to boys and girls for Christmas?”
2) You can then send a reply message that says “@namecheap Santa Claus”.
The @ symbol puts it to their attention. If you are one of the first three to answer correctly, NameCheap will send $9.69 credit for a new domain name or renewal directly into your NameCheap account.
Here’s how to participate:
- First what you need to do is to login to your NameCheap account.
- After you login, at the top of the page find where it says „Follow us at Twitter“, click on that link to start following NameCheap.
- After that, on the NameCheap’s website go to “My Account” > “Manage Profile” and then choose “Twitter Integration” link on the left (https://www.namecheap.com/myaccount/modify-profile-twitter.asp)
- Enter your Twitter username and click “Start Verification”. If you don’t have a Twitter account already, just signup.
- A short code will be sent from NameCheap to your Twitter account using a direct message (a message that no one else other than you could see). Note: Unless you first follow NameCheap on Twitter, they will not be able to send you that code.
- Enter the code on the NameCheap confirmation page and you are all set with linking the accounts.
- Once linked, you will see a credit on your NameCheap account within few hours on you winning.
What is the only rule?
To avoid having only a few people participate who game the contest, NameCheap decided that each contestant can win only one domain per day. (But, there is an incentive to keep participating, read more :))
Keep playing for the iPod nano!
You can’t wrap up a domain name and give it to someone else for the holidays, right? That’s why NameCheap is offering 3 iPods to the people who answer the most questions correctly. Pretty cool, huh? This does not require you to be one of the first to answer and you can answer as many questions every day in order to add to your tally of correct answers. NameCheap will post these winners in their blog after the contest is over. Be sure to keep playing until the 25 days are over and answering as much as you can for your chance to get your hand on an iPod nano.
